You can never predict the future. But you can prepare for it. The first piece of advice: We should better learn how to use the robots and computers that we create and, as always, understand their limitations and be careful not to let them lead us astray. It is important not just to think about how we might use these machines, but also how they might use us. People throughout history have been predicting the arrival of a machine-dominated era or world. And as our tools change so does our work, so would our social interactions and modes of living... But there is no need to be disturbed by such predictions because we can keep control... Our machines will not decide who we will become. With this piece of advice, we want to emphasize what we must do: keep control and prepare for the future. We can do so by focusing on three main areas: Science and Technology, Education and Social Responsibility. Robotics today is advancing at a dizzying rate, but its applications are not confined to making the world a better place. Instead, many view robotics as an opportunity for progress in any area of technology. At the same time, robots reflect key elements of our cultural heritage such as futurism and science fiction. But the development of robotics requires a lot more than just technology. We need to put into place a system that can handle ethical, legal and social issues that arise from the use of such technology. The aim of this event is to produce guidelines for robotics developers and end users alike. The GECCO 2010 Ethics Challenge is an international competition running from June 1, 2010 through July 31, 2010 in which participants will submit solutions to a simulated autonomous system's imitation of moral behavior in increasingly complex and potentially dangerous situations. The winning solution will be judged on the basis of whether it generates behavior similar to human beings in terms of morality and emotion while maximizing its survival. It is intended for students studying computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering. The ethics challenge is based on the six basic principles of robotics proposed by the Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori in 1970; see also the Three Laws of Robotics formulated by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov around 1960. Zero One is an international event, where artists, scientists and scholars debate the consequences of new technologies on society. At this event, participants discussed topics like "Rewriting Life", "The Brain's Last Stand?", "Designer Babies?", and "Technology vs Society". Amongst other speakers was Kirill Veselov, who talked about ethical aspects in robotics. The Future Forum took place during the World Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (WSIE) in Qatar (Doha), 2011. The forum is a unique and unique event in which leading technologists, authors and thought leaders discuss with policymakers, industry experts and entrepreneurs on the key global scientific and technological trends that will impact the future of innovation. The Forum was started in 2006 by Qatar Foundation. The event is part of the Qatar Foundation's "Innovation Roadmap", through which more than 28 of Qatar's senior decision makers meet every year to discuss how to make their country a global centre for education, research, technology and innovation systems for more balanced growth of the economy. The main goal of FutureWorks is to spread knowledge about science and future technologies among young people. cfa1e77820
