Although not as common as other gases, such as oxygen and nitrogen, carbon dioxide is found in higher concentrations at higher ground. Carbon dioxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas that has a density of 1.94. It's rare to see this gas come into contact with air because it exists in the Earth's atmosphere only in very small quantities - 0.04% of the total amount of air we breathe consists of carbon dioxide. Moreover, carbon dioxide rapidly reacts with the water in the air to form carbonic acid, which is known as an acid rain. As a result, this gas is even less likely to be seen than other gases. There are several sources of carbon dioxide in the world. One of them is volcanoes, where huge amounts of this gas are released when lava comes in contact with water. Carbon dioxide can also be released when carbonate rock (such as limestone) comes into contact with acidic water (like rainwater). When this occurs, bicarbonate ions are formed in solution which then come into contact with air and form carbon dioxide. As it has been mentioned, carbon dioxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas. It's used to produce carbonated drinks, in fire extinguishers and dry cleaning processes. It's also used for filling balloons because it is much less expensive than helium. Furthermore, when combined with certain substances, it can form compounds that are much more powerful than its own properties separately. This process is called catalysis which means "to make reactions go faster." For example, catalytic converters are used in cars to speed up the reactions of harmful gases produced by the engine with carbon dioxide or oxygen which are harmless by themselves. The car can then exhale carbon dioxide safely into the air without causing any further damage to the environment. One of the most disturbing side effects of carbon dioxide emissions is their ability to trap heat within the atmosphere. As a result, they are responsible for climate change. However, they are completely harmless if they are not in contact with air. Carbon dioxide can be used in order to kill people without causing pain or suffering by suffocation. For example, this gas has been used in the gas chambers of Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Carbon dioxide is used in dry ice which is solidified carbon dioxide that looks like white ice cubes. Moreover, it was used to make fog used in theatres or special events where artificial smoke would have interfered with the audience's experience. In the past it was also used in dry ice machines for home use which was an early method of preserving food. In the past, this gas was used in a variety of industrial processes such as tanning and distilling. Carbon dioxide is also used in making pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and chemicals. In fact, carbon dioxide is one of the most common industrial gases that are created in the world. Carbon dioxide is a colorless, odourless and tasteless gas that has a density of 1.94. It's rare to see this gas come into contact with air because it exists in the Earth's atmosphere only in very small quantities - 0. cfa1e77820
